SHORT TERM RENTAL PERMIT PAGE
After over a year of consideration, in August 2020, the Leelanau Township Board adopted Ordinance No. 3 of 2020, The Leelanau Township Short Term Rental Ordinance.
Leelanau Township started implementing the Ordinance on January 1, 2021. Starting on that date, anyone operating or advertising a Short Term Rental must obtain a permit from Leelanau Township.
Visit the document center to view the ordinances and forms.
Note: The Leelanau Township Short-Term Rental Ordinance, as-adopted, bases the allowable occupancy of a short-term rental on the number of bedrooms approved on a Health Department permit or approval, or Building Permit, with a maximum occupancy of 15 guests over 5 years of age.
This requirement is intended to prevent over-occupancy of short-term rentals and over-use of the short-term rental septic systems.
If you have questions on the Short-Term Rental Application or Permits, you may contact the Leelanau Township Zoning Administrator (Steve Patmore) at leelanautownshipzoning@gmail.com or zoning@leelanautownshipmi.gov. The Zoning Administrator is in the Township Office Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11:30 am – 2:00 pm.
