Please send all correspondence for the Planning Commission to the Zoning Administrator (Steve Patmore) at this email address:  zoning@leelanautownshipmi.gov.  Indicate in the message subject “for Planning Commission”.


2025 Planning Commission Meeting Schedule (approved 1-09-25)

The Leelanau Township Planning Commission meets the second and fourth Thursday of each month at the Township Office.  The start time is normally 6:30 PM.  Please see the approved schedule link above.  Additional meetings and cancellations will be properly noticed.

Planning Commission Meetings may be postponed due to weather advisories or hazardous travel conditions and will generally be announced by 3:00 P.M. the day of the meeting on the township website and posted at the meeting location. Any Public Hearings postponed by weather will automatically be re-scheduled for the next Regular Meeting, unless a Special Meeting is scheduled by the Commission.

Planning Commission Meetings are held at the Township Hall. As a convenience to the public, they will also be broadcast via Electronic Remote Access.  The Public is encouraged to participate.  Zoom Links are attached to each Meeting announcement.  Meetings are held in compliance with the Michigan Open Meetings Act.  Please note: technological issues with the Zoom format could potentially interfere with participation via this platform.

Leelanau Township will provide the necessary and/or reasonable auxiliary aids and services for the hearing impaired and other persons with disabilities.  Requests for aids or services should be made to the Township Office at least seven days prior to the meeting.

The Planning Commission has received an application to amend the Zoning Ordinance with language to allow farm stays in the agricultural district.  A Public hearing will be held on Thursday, Sept. 12th during the regular meeting at 7 pm to hear comment about the proposed amendment.  Click here to read the proposed amendment.


The Planning Commission has received a Special Land Use Permit application for a new Communication Tower (Cell Tower) to be located at 11015 Kitchen Road.  The review process will begin at the November 14th meeting. The Public Hearing will resume prior to the Planning Commission’s vote on the application.
